A pioneer in Brazil and a benchmark in Latin America, the CAM-CCBC closes 2024 celebrating its successful trajectory while preparing for the next steps in its expansion

With 45 years of activity, the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CAM-CCBC) has established itself as a global leader in its field. However, its story of success is far from over, as initiatives are already underway to further enhance its pioneering legacy.
The forward-thinking approach that led to the creation of the CCBC Arbitration Commission in 1979, which later evolved into the CAM-CCBC, remains a cornerstone of its strategy today. This is evident in projects such as partnerships with international organizations, exploratory missions, initiatives to broaden awareness of alternative dispute resolution methods, and the implementation of transparency and governance policies.
“Being the first and largest arbitration center in Brazil is a source of pride, but it also comes with great responsibility in the market—a role we embrace fully. CAM-CCBC works tirelessly to develop alternative dispute resolution methods and promote their societal benefits. This is reflected in our alignment with best practices, emerging trends, and continuous innovation,” explains Silvia Rodrigues Pachikoski, Vice-President of CAM-CCBC.
In 2024, CAM-CCBC launched over 160 initiatives, including events, sponsorships, representations, and publications. Among these is a compendium of public arbitration awards, available virtually and free of charge. This project gathers arbitration decisions administered by CAM-CCBC that are legally or judicially public, providing structured access and free research capabilities on its website.
The first volume focuses on arbitrations involving public administration. Over 2025, three additional volumes will be released, covering corporate law, commercial contracts, and issues related to the real estate, financial, construction, and energy sectors.
A partnership with the JusMundi platform was also established to enable the publication of excerpts from arbitration awards using artificial intelligence. This technology ensures anonymity for the parties while promoting broader public understanding of arbitration procedures.
“Transparency and governance are vital themes. Publicly sharing information underscores our commitment to these principles. At the same time, the use of technology safeguards the confidentiality and privacy of parties involved,” adds Ricardo de Carvalho Aprigliano, another Vice-President of CAM-CCBC.
In line with its governance and innovation strategies, CAM-CCBC announced a new Mediation Regulation in 2024, incorporating revisions to encourage broader use of the method. Mediation cases reached a historic record, with 18 new cases registered by early November.
Expanding International Visibility
CAM-CCBC’s relentless work has enhanced its global recognition. In addition to hosting high-profile events such as the Latin American Arbitration Conference (CLA), the São Paulo Arbitration Week (SPAW), and the CAM-CCBC Arbitration Congress, 2024 marked the institution’s first participation in the Canadian Arbitration Week in Ontario, Canada. This was part of a joint mission with the CCBC.
The initiative strengthened ties with the Canadian arbitration community and fostered greater legal exchanges between the two countries, which are at different stages in the development of institutional arbitration, an area where Brazil excels. The mission included visits, meetings, and networking with Canadian universities, lawyers, arbitrators, and CCBC-affiliated companies in Toronto and Montreal.
“We had a very productive mission, thanks to the CCBC’s expertise in the Canadian market and CAM-CCBC’s extensive sector knowledge. This joint action exemplifies the synergy and mutual support between CCBC and CAM-CCBC,” says Rodrigo Garcia da Fonseca, President of CAM-CCBC.
This optimism is echoed by CCBC President Ronaldo Ramos. “We opened important doors during this journey alongside CAM-CCBC. The mission was a winning combination of the Center’s robust content and the Chamber’s networking, a model that will be replicated in future initiatives,” he concludes.
