Canada continues to attract Brazilians for studies despite new immigration policies

CCBC research reveals that the quality of universities and job opportunities still keep Canada among the top study destinations for Brazilians

Despite changes in Canada’s immigration policies this year, which include restrictions on international student entry, the country remains one of the most attractive destinations for Brazilian students seeking academic excellence, quality education, and good career opportunities. According to experts, the new policies, aimed at mitigating the impact of foreigners on the housing market and cost of living, do not seem to have diminished enthusiasm among those interested in studying there.

A survey conducted by the Education Commission of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (CCBC) confirms that the reputation of Canadian universities, combined with job prospects and quality of life, continue to heavily influence students’ decisions, who see Canada as an excellent gateway to the global job market.

The survey revealed that more than 80% of respondents have not been affected by the new immigration policies and still plan to study in Canada. Among those interviewed, 45% said they have not changed their plans at all, and 38% were unaware of the new immigration policies.

Canadian educational institutions have already noticed this trend. “We have been receiving Brazilian students for a long time, but over the past five years, we have developed closer ties, with someone dedicated to this audience, and it has been very rewarding. Each year, more and more Brazilians come to our college, and we are extremely happy to be chosen to be part of their lives,” says William Bertaiolli, regional manager at Sault College and coordinator of the CCBC Education Commission.

CCBC’s research shows that for many, Canada continues to be a strategic destination for Brazilians seeking great opportunities and stability. Among the respondents, about 70% highlighted quality of life, and 65% pointed out the job market as decisive factors in their choice of destination. Aspects such as prices and entertainment were also mentioned but with less relevance.

William Bertaiolli, the coordinator of the Education Commission, emphasizes the importance of offering experiences that connect students to employability or entrepreneurship. “We always focus on programs that create professional opportunities for students, aimed at the job market,” Bertaiolli says.

This close relationship between educational institutions and the Canadian job market translates into several courses designed to meet local demand. There are partnerships between companies and universities, increasing the chances of finding a placement even during or at the end of the course. The profile of these programs may vary by university, so it’s important to know the different options the country offers.

For this reason, the CCBC Education Commission plays a vital role in this context. It maintains partnerships with various institutions across the country and promotes events such as Canada Day to facilitate Brazilian access to information about the Canadian education system, helping them make more informed and strategic decisions.
