<\/p>
By Marcelo Picolo<\/strong><\/p> Trade between Brazil and Canada saw an increase in the first half of 2025 compared to the same period last year. The main highlight was exports, which jumped from US$2.7 billion to a historic US$3.4 billion \u2014 a 25% growth. The data comes from Quick Trade Facts<\/em>, a report prepared by the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CCBC).<\/p> According to an analysis by CCBC economic experts, even though the Brazilian currency appreciated against the US dollar, the exchange rate still reflects a depreciation relative to the real. \u201cThis factor helped drive the increase in exports, as Brazilian products became relatively more affordable for Canadian consumers,\u201d said Hilton Nascimento, President of the Chamber.<\/p> \u201cThe threat by the Trump administration to impose tariffs on foreign products entering the United States is pushing exporters to seek alternative markets, which in turn strengthens the Brazil-Canada relationship,\u201d he added.<\/p> While Brazilian exports to the Canadian market increased, imports dropped slightly \u2014 from US$1.4 billion to US$1.37 billion, a decline of about 2%. This resulted in a positive trade balance of over US$2 million for Brazil. Additionally, the overall trade flow between Brazil and Canada \u2014 the sum of exports and imports \u2014 rose by 16%.<\/p> It\u2019s also worth noting that the decline in imports wasn’t limited to Canadian products. Brazil slightly reduced imports from most countries, with a general drop from 1.1% to 1%.<\/p> Canada\u2019s share in total Brazilian exports rose from 1.6% to 2.1% in one year, indicating growing interest and demand for Brazilian products in the Canadian market.<\/p> The top product exported by Brazil in this trade relationship is bullion gold \u2014 unrefined and non-industrialized. This item alone accounted for US$1.35 billion in exports during the first six months of the year, compared to more than US$765 million during the same period in 2024.<\/p> Other key drivers of Brazilian exports include iron, copper and nickel ores; agribusiness (such as sugar, green coffee, and meat); and manufactured goods (including aluminum oxide, aircraft, and machinery).<\/p> Notably, in the first half of 2025, sales of sugar, coffee, and pork saw substantial growth, helping push Brazil\u2019s exports to a record level. \u201cThis semester\u2019s result reaffirms the growing Canadian market demand for Brazilian products and reflects our ongoing commitment to strengthening this commercial partnership,\u201d says Nascimento, CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CCBC).<\/p> Slight drop in imports and positive trade balance<\/strong><\/p> Brazilian imports of Canadian products fell 2% compared to the first half of 2024. This decline is attributed to factors such as the depreciation of the real and a general reduction in imports, reflecting adjustments in Brazil\u2019s foreign trade. Despite the drop, Canada remains an important supplier to Brazil, especially in chemical and pharmaceutical products, machinery, and mineral extraction items. Imports of certain goods, such as niobium and oil & gas-related materials, also showed growth.<\/p> \u201cThese results underscore Canadian market interest in Brazilian products and show the consolidation of a strategic trade partnership.
