Some of the\u00a0attributes\u00a0that\u00a0perfectly\u00a0describe\u00a0Canada are also\u00a0true\u00a0about\u00a0Brazil. The country,\u00a0with\u00a0200 million inhabitants and low cost due to the devalued currency, has presented an impressive growth in the number of innovation centers. More than that, the increase in the number of entrepreneurs, regional and economic characteristics and the entry of some Brazilian startups in the coveted list of unicorns have placed cities like S\u00e3o Paulo in the list of the most promising places in the world.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/startupgenome.com\/gser2019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2019<\/a>, prepared by <a href=\"https:\/\/startupgenome.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Startup Genome<\/a>, S\u00e3o Paulo is highlighted\u00a0in the \u201cNext 30\u201d list\u00a0among cities whose ecosystems are expanding and\u00a0are expected\u00a0to\u00a0consolidate as important innovation hubs worldwide in the coming years.\u00a0What all cities on that list have in common\u00a0is\u00a0at least one unicorn (startup valued at more than\u00a0US$ 1 billion), strong regional leadership, and leadership in\u00a0some\u00a0specific\u00a0segments.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00e3o Paulo is ranked among the Top 10 major global ecosystems for accessible talent, Top 30 best for\u00a0fintechs,\u00a0and\u00a0offers\u00a0also a\u00a0very\u00a0encouraging environment for\u00a0healthtechs. According to the report, the local ecosystem is worth\u00a0US$ 5.1 billion. Among the benefits offered by the government are\u00a0exemption on\u00a0several types of taxes such as revenue, import\u00a0&amp;\u00a0export and manufactured goods\u00a0taxes. Access to state-of-the-art teaching and research institutions, such as the University of S\u00e3o Paulo (USP), which is ranked 1st in South America in the global ranking of universities, is\u00a0yet\u00a0another\u00a0differential.<\/p>\n<p>Other cities in Brazil also come up with equally attractive features for startups.\u00a0Rio de Janeiro (RJ), Belo Horizonte (MG), Porto Alegre (RS)\u00a0and\u00a0Fortaleza (CE) are some\u00a0of\u00a0them.\u00a0Florian\u00f3plis\u00a0(SC), for example, is the Brazilian city with the highest number of startups per inhabitant, according to statistics from the Santa Catarina Association of Technology (Acate). It is estimated that in the state of Santa Catarina, which\u00a0represents 3% of the Brazilian population, there are 20% of the country&#8217;s startups,\u00a0right\u00a0after\u00a0S\u00e3o Paulo.<\/p>\n<p>Data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/abstartups.com.br\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brazilian Association of Startups (<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/abstartups.com.br\/\">ABStartups)<\/a> point out that currently there are around 12,000 startups in Brazil,\u00a0operating\u00a0in different segments, from areas such as software as a service (SaaS) and application development, to quite\u00a0a variety of\u00a0sectors. One example is\u00a0fintechs: by using technology to compete with traditional banks, allowing account holders and investors a more advantageous experience, they are gaining an increasingly important place in the market. Today these companies have a great ability to attract new talent in the job market: survey of LinkedIn in 2018 showed that 13 of the 25 most desired startups are in the financial sector.<\/p>\n<p>In a similar way, Brazilian agribusiness\u00a0sector\u00a0has also benefited from the solutions brought by the new companies, and finds a strong ally in them to raise productivity. In 2018, the\u00a0<i>Radar\u00a0<\/i><i>AGTech<\/i><i>\u00a0Mining Report<\/i>\u00a0study\u00a0already showed that there were at least 135 startups geared towards the development of agricultural technologies in the country,\u00a0agritechs. The range of innovations brought by them applies in areas such as precision agriculture, monitoring and data processing technologies, use of robotic and drone solutions, new methods for planting and breeding animals and pest control, among others. Between 2016 and 2017, the aggregate volume of investments in\u00a0agritechs\u00a0rose 94.2% to $ 437 billion.<\/p>\n<p><b>Links connected<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The growth of the sector\u00a0also\u00a0stimulated the creation of new forms of connection between the\u00a0players in\u00a0the\u00a0ecosystem. The relationship with international partners can be instrumental in raising the capacity of startups to raise funds or develop technology solutions.\u00a0This need\u00a0drove, for example, the\u00a0creatin\u00a0of the\u00a0Connection Bureau platform\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0Technology Committee of the Chamber of Commerce\u00a0Brazil-Canada, a\u00a0great\u00a0ally in the\u00a0startups\u00a0internationalization process,\u00a0as it\u00a0facilitates their connection with international partners and investors.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative allows the exchange of experiences and\u00a0promotes\u00a0business between companies\u00a0from Brazil and Canada, be they startups, investors, incubators, accelerators or service providers. The Connection Bureau helps to unite potential partners by providing conditions and guidelines so that startups can launch into the international market safely and successfully.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past 18 months, the platform has received more than 150\u00a0applications from interested companies,\u00a0and\u00a0now has 114 members, including 56 startups. Soon, an online mentoring system will be launched for startups (both\u00a0Brazilian and Canadian),\u00a0which will allow access to\u00a0guidance\u00a0in various areas, such as legal assistance\u00a0and international sales.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Huge territory, multicultural history, openness to new ideas, creativity hub.
